Get the The Hobbie Realmsmug. Someone who treats their hobby as it were a career. Often these people proclaim how awesome they and their hobby/job are, but they can't pay the bills under that way of life. Hobby jobbers frequently are people like volunteer firefighters, volunteer emt, musicians, artists that take every opportunity to pat themselves on the back for their hobbies. They often are on food stamps, welfare and income tax ballers.
Did you see that facebook post from that hobby jobber at the fire department? She pretends like she does all this amazing stuff, but she can't even take care of herself and her 3 kids. Free school lunch, free health care, food stamps. She should probably worry about getting off probation and getting a real job,.

Get the Hobby Jobbermug. When being in front of screens, e.g. doomscrolling on your smartphone for hours on end, now becomes the only hobby your have. This is because screen time has made you lose the interest on the hobbies you once enjoyed, hence you now prone to missing important things in life.
Ever since I got a new iPhone, I experience the phenomenon of screen time as the sole hobby; I spend hours doomscrolling and completely ignore my old passions like painting and hiking. It’s like I’m missing out on life while stuck in a digital bubble.

They ignore pre-established rules and expect others to follow their new ones without question. They attack fans and creators for anything they deem "abnormal" and engage in brigaded attacks against those who don’t conform. They have no problem threatening violence or sending death threats, believing their actions are justified.
Despite pretending to be inclusive, they reject any culture outside their own. When called out, they always play the victim and claim it's proof the hobby needs "fixing." They manipulate online engagement by botting Facebook likes, Twitter shares, and Reddit upvotes to create a false sense of support.
Most emerged during and after the 2020 pandemic when lockdowns gave people too much free time. While some pre-2020 cases existed, they were mostly confined to Tumblr. They can be identified by posts mocking hobby norms that receive thousands of likes, yet most replies disagree, exposing the botting.
When confronted, they typically:
- Play the victim
- Use ad hominem attacks against fans
- Trivialize the situation (often exposing their hypocrisy)
- Threaten violence against those who disagree
