Pulling a Valerie

In the world of music, writing a song shortly before a performance (typically about an hour before) and then playing it, typically unfinished. Basically the ultimate form of musical procrastination in the form of last-minute songwriting. Named for a singer/songwriter named Valerie who frequents open mics in the Philadelphia area and developed this technique as her trademark.
The audience roared with applause when they realized the singer was pulling a Valerie.
