Woke

Woke

"Woke" originated in African American English and defined awareness of and attentiveness to social and racial injustices. To be "woke" politically in the Black community means that someone is informed, educated and conscious of social injustice and racial inequality.

RIght-wingers who are angry that they suffer repercussions for using pejoratives to attack minorities, women, and people of non-trad genders use it as a cudgel to denigrate people who fight for social and racial justice. In its misuse, it is a form of hate speech.

It is a favorite term of Trump and his party. In the example, he erroneously equates diversity programs with unfair advantages for minorities.
“Our country will be woke no longer,” Trump said. “We believe that whether you are a doctor, an accountant, a lawyer, or an air traffic controller, you should be hired and promoted based on skill and competence, not race or gender.”

Woke

It literally means ''past of wake''.

However, it has a different meaning in politics in United States.

In terms of right-wing politics, it means ''following an intolerant and moralising ideology'' or ''social media-fueled, leftwing political ideology.'' It is especially used against corporations that ''virtue signal''.

For the left-wing politics, it means ''alert to injustice in society''. This is the first time it was used in politics, but never been really capitalized that much by the left, until the opposition decided to use it much more frequently as a slang against their opponents.
Left Wing Corporation: We made a rainbow chocolate, we care about our gay customers, only 3.99 if you're opressed minority!
Right Wing Guy: Get woke, go broke!

WOKE

WOKE: WILL ONLY KRITICIZE EUROPE.
In response to the "Bethany Mandel, Conservative author, struggles to define WOKE" issue of 3/23,
I commented on Christopher Rufo's 4/26/2023 video
"The Assault on Sexual “Normativity” Is an Assault on the Basic Structure of Reality"
===
WOKE = Will Only Kriticize Europe.
8:30 CR understands WOKE as James Lindsay does. JL: "Communism doesn't know how." "Ruthless criticism of all that exists." CR: "It functions almost entirely on the process of negation." and he then proceeds to throb with commie-wrecker energy.
But his formulations for WOKE, while accurate, aren't as short and snappy as mine. ;)
There was a need, a few weeks ago, for a SHORT & SNAPPY definition of WOKE.

Here's one to take & run with!
"Only" to be taken in many senses.
Woke will never criticize non-European cultures; Woke will never be able to do anything by itself.
WOKE: WILL ONLY CRITICIZE EUROPE.

woke

A term that was supposed to mean something good (being aware to social injustice and discrimination), but now it has turned into an insult that means "overly sensitive" or "pretending to be woke". Mostly used against the actual pseudo-woke, but sometimes used against ordinary people who have enough ACTUAL wokeness to call out the insult user's blatant racism/sexist/etc.

It practically got ruined by the pseudo-wokeness seen in Twitter warriors and "progressive" companies.

Having enough wokeness to recognize actual bigotry is a good thing, but please don't be a Twitter warrior.
Little sibling who just learned the word "woke": Hey I am proud to be woke

Older sibling: You shouldn't call yourself woke in public or online. That word has turned into an insult used against those pretending to be woke, like in being overly sensitive to the smallest details that are somehow "racist" or "sexist" by some warped logic or by straight-up discriminating against white people and men as an attempt to "counter" discrimination against people of color and women. Long story short they'll think you're oversensitive or even a hypocritical bigot.

Little sibling who now knows why the term "woke" has a stained reputation: Ok thanks for reminding me about this.
