PIM

Pim weight

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

1. Pim weight, a polished stone about 15 mm (5/8 inch) diameter, equal to about two-thirds of a Hebrew shekel. Many specimens have been found since their initial discovery early in the 20th century, and each one weighs about 7.6 grams compared to 11.5 grams of a shekel. Its name, which can also be transliterated as "payim", comes from the inscription seen across the top of its dome shape: פימ.

From New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures 2013 edition

2. A weight as well as the price charged by the Philistines for sharpening various metal implements. Several stone weights found in archaeological excavations in Israel bear the ancient Hebrew consonants (פימ – MYP {right to left} PYM) of “pim”; their average weight is 7.8g (0.2508 oz t), which would be approximately two-thirds of a shekel. – 1 Sa 13:20, 21

Hebrew
פימ – MYP
פ – P
י – Y
מ - M

Impact
Until Robert Alexander Stewart Macalister's excavations at Gezer (1902-1905 and 1907-1909), scholars did not know how to translate the word pim (פִ֗ים p̄îm) in 1 Samuel 13:21.
I will charge you a Pim for that.

Allison

This name has two or three etymologies. (1) Allison and all its variations are from, ‘Alicen or Alis (Old French and Norman French: Aalis and Aliz),’ a feminine French diminutive of, ‘Alice.’ Alice and its variations represents the short form of “Adelais”, which is derived from the Germanic name Adalhaid/Adalhaidis, composed of two elements: “aþalaz” (noble, nobleman, aristocratic, eminent, glorious, excellent) plus “haiduz” (kind, sort, appearance, personality, character, manner, way). (2) However, the name is also derived from: as a Masculine English matronymic meaning, “Son of Alice.” (3) Alice derived from the Greek, “Aletheia,” meaning, “truth.” Depending on etymology, the name Allison and its other variations can either mean, “Noble kind/Sort, Aristocratic Kind/Sort, Glorious Kind/Sort/Appearance, Excellent Character or Truth.”

Alexander

ALEXANDER: (Hebrew אֲלֶכְּסַנְדֶר) Anglicized form of Latin Alexandrus (Greek Alexandros). This name derives from the Ancient Greek name “Aléxandros (Αλέξανδρος)”, composed of two elements: “aléxō (ἀλέξω)” (keep off, turn aside, guard, protect, defend, help) plus “anḗr (ἀνήρ) andrós (ἀνδρός)” (man “adult male”, husband). In turn, the name means “defending men, protector of men”. This definition is an example of the widespread motif of Greek (or Indo-European more generally) names expressing "battle prowess", in this case, the ability to withstand or push back an enemy battle line. The name was one of the titles, "epithets", given to the Greek goddess Hera and as such is usually taken to mean "one who comes to save warriors". The most famous linked to this root is Alexander the Great, who created one of the largest empires in ancient history.

Jehovah's Witnesses

1. A member of a global Christian congregation who worship Jehovah as the only God, believe in Jesus as God's son sent to ransom humankind from sin and death and is now ruling as king in heaven. They believe that the goodnews must be preached before the end comes and stays neutral in National and Racial controversies.

2. A member of an international Christian organisation whose believes are based solely on the Bible. They often go from house to house preaching, "God's Kingdom." The Witnesses also have no clergy class and regularly meet for worship at the, "Kingdom Hall"

3. A group of Christians that were hated and persecuted by Nazi Germany along with the Jews and Roma for refusing military service. The Witnesses were also persecuted by the former Soviet Union for refusing military service as conscious objectors. They believe a Christian shouldn't get involved in war as Jesus taught that one should love his neighbor as himself.

Jehovah's Witnesses are often hated, misunderstood and despised by a lot of people but a closer look at them and their believes will annul such hatred and misunderstanding.

These definitions were written based on unbiased historical evidence. The above informations were collected from face to face interview with the Witnesses, from their website (www.jw.org), The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (www.ushmm.org),and Jewish Virtual Library (www.jewishvirtuallibray.org)
