A form of protection used against magnetic mines by the Germans in World War
Two. The material was put on to
German Panzers to prevent their distruction. Zimmerit was applied using a type of spatula. There were several patterns including zig-zag, horizontal columns and rows, and vertical columns and rows. One ingredient was saw dust. It was suspected that Zimmerit would ignite when
hit by an anti-tank
shell and the process was halted in late 1944, but there is no evidence to prove that Zimmerit was ever flamable.
