Believed to have originated on 4chan’s /pol/ board, this is a bastardized portmanteau of the words nigger and vatnik, which is a political pejorative term used for unquestioning jingoistic followers of Russian pro war propaganda. Used in roughly the same context though can be used to refer more specifically to followers of Russian propaganda narratives in western countries.
