Titchner

A piece of art that tries to be edgy or insightful but actually is just mundane and vanilla. It probably appears hip to low level arty wannabees and so could get shortlisted into the odd competition, but under the spot-light, the reaction is just "are you kidding?"

It's also the kind of thing that would appeal to trying-to-be-hip corporates, so might look good on the wall of the Apple boardroom. By the same token, mediocre town councils would pay to have the art dotted across their city in order to increase the local hipness factor, but in actual fact without supporting any work which is even remotely uplifting or challenging.
Me: "I'm knocking up a banksy lookalike from a stencil and a spray can - it will have one of those phrases that you see on those corporate motivational posters"
Mum: "Sounds like a complete titchner, you should be able to flog that to a corporate or city council"
