The Dodo Is Alive!

When some Trumpists-turned-QAnonists still stranded on the volcanic island of Mauritius—who needed to concoct a half-believe story to gain public attention so that they could fly back home—told the locals that they spotted a big bird that resembled the flightless dodo in the middle of the night, when the country was still on lockdown, thus raising the infinitesimal hope that the Mauritian bird, thought extinct, is far from dead.
That “the dodo is alive!” sounds like a modern version of the biblical story of Jesus’ raising Lazarus, who had already been in the tomb for four days, from the dead—even if the big bird is long dead, who says that it can’t miraculously be resurrected?

dead as the dodo

To be very dead indeed. The dodo was a large flightless and idiotic bird brought to extinction in 1681 by Sailors who wished to take thier heads home to thier native countries. Unlike some other extinct animals (Thylacine, Carolina Parakeet, Passenger pigeon, flightless Ibis etc.) It is certain that the last of these creatures is dead. The word dodo is interchangeable with Quagga, giant lemur, Auroch, Giant Moa or any other long-time dead animal.
In 100 years communism will be as dead as the dodo, and Karl Marx will be denounced.

Do the dodo

To kill something in hope of making it extinct. Usually flies, mosquitos and/or ants.
Not to be confused with the expression to "do" someone. The expression "Do the dodo" has nothing to do with bestialty. To "go the way of the dodo" has nothing to do with this expression.
"Oh God I hate mosquitos, they're everywhere."
"Well I guess you have to do the dodo to get rid of 'em"

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
