Staunch Republican 

1) an apocryphal character cited for the purpose of an argument of the form "Even this staunch republican agrees that all republicans rape babies. sometimes the argument takes the form of a hard news piece.

2) one of the popular forms taken by a "moby", a variety of troll which adopts the cultural identity of the opposing team for the purposes of either defamation by implication or "concern trolling".

"i have to say, genuine, there are problems with your criticisms which i haven't the time to point out here, but i wonder if you ever ask yourself why so many of your ideas so readily excite the passions of racist skinhead types like 'staunch_republican1776'?"
