If you want to know what preps are, read "The Preppy Handbook." It goes along with the idea of the elite, rich, new england, prep school children, and was printed in the 80's. It includes excerpts about etiquette, fashion, preperatory schools, Lacoste, etc... I personally have a copy.

I'd like to believe I've coined the term "neoprep." Because that's what I'd label what these people call preps these days. Neoprepism is about clothing, period. It has nothing to do anything negative, behaviors etc...

Just because I wear a certain type of clothing, it does not mean anyone should judge me based on this. True I have money to spend on these clothes, but they are simple, last so long, and are flattering to my figure.

Just call a bitch a bitch; a dumbie and dumbie, and a slut a slut.

What has stayed common between old school and new school preppy:
Vera Bradley, Coach, Gucci, Lacoste, ribbon belts, sports involvement (though oldschool preps had more variety)

What is different:

Abercombie is now back in business, there is more of a use of jeans and flipflops, the clothing is less classic&conservative, It's now more about style and less about preporatory schools and country clubs.
Oldschool prep: "Muffy, come along Mummy is taking us to the country club. Get on your Lilly Pulitzer sundress and bring your tennis raquett. I hope you've finished you're school work."

Neoprep: "I'm going to get a few pairs of jeans from Hollister, they fit me so well and last so long! *thinks:I wish people would stop being so judgemental an assume things about me.*"

Dumbass talking about a neoprep: "Look she is wearing abercrombie *points* she must be a popular, dumb slut who will hate us scenesters."

Regular Degular

Plain. Not tampered with or upgraded. Basic.
May I have an order of regular degular buttermilk pancakes? Without all the added jazz? Hold the blueberry smiley face, strawberry glaze, chocolate chips and whipped cream.
