The attitude of an
arrogant, dilettante craftsman - often a perpetual one.
Those who embody the Makerspace Mindset have little to no skills or abilities in the allied arts or trades, but believe they do, while producing only crude toys or prototypes. Computer-aided tools do most if not all of the work.
They often make things that are marginally functional,
sloppy, and infantile, and are limited by near-absolute reliance on self-operating tools to produce the result (CAD/CAM,
3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machining on "prosumer" tools, etc.). Many cannot even draw a
sketch without the aid of a computer, and the computer may do most of the work.
Those with the Makerspace Mindset often have a very high
opinion of their ideas and their skills, in spite of being essentially unable to function in the absence of a computer-aided environment.
"He's basically
useless with his hands, but he thinks he's a craftsman; he has that "makerspace mindset",
you know. Without CNC tools, he couldn't
make a damn thing."
