lorewashing

Lorewashing is when a movie or a tv show corporation decide to do a new take on a established book or video game lore because they decide that the story is of little importance to them and that they can modify masterpieces at their will.

They qualify it of "new", "unique" and "attractive".

Outside of the exception of some movies, most of the lorewashing victims are thrown in oblivion of the public memories. They usually come with a ton of CGI, bad jokes, akward moments and are frozen in the modern time instead if being legacy work.

Famous examples: Eragon, DnD, Wheel of Time, Narnia, Disney erasement of the Star Wars extended universe .

Lovewashing

Lovewashing (a compound word modeled on "whitewash"), refers to beliefs and behaviors that are used as an attempt to oversimplify complex issues by proposing that love should be sufficient to address any given situation.
This is most often used superficially, where what is invoked are the aesthetics of love and not the actual emotional labor required to ensure that love is truly being embodied, communicated and received. Little to no considerations are given for the complexe competencies required for love to be truly cultivated and almost all attention is place on the theatrics of love.

Often used by people who are unwilling to look at the implications of their behaviour, unwilling to take responsibility for how their behaviour is incoherent with their professed beliefs and who, above all else, want to preserve a positive self image.

"She keeps saying that we should just vibe and smile. That's some grade A lovewashing right there"

LARPwashing

LARPwashing is the practice of misrepresenting historical movements or figures by projecting radical political ideologies onto them, usually done by individuals who advocate for such ideologies without engaging in meaningful action. It can be seen as the opposite of whitewashing. Where a whitewasher might elide the less savory aspects of a figure like Nelson Mandela, a LARPwasher will try to amplify them in order to make the figure seem more edgy and radical.

A larpwasher might, for example, insist that Apartheid in South Africa was ended solely through force of arms, ignoring that the ANC quickly abandoned terrorism in favor of compromise and reconciliation with the National Party. But the most common variety of LARPwashing involves insisting that the civil rights movement in the United States was largely militant, rather than nonviolent.
Bro, shut up. MLK was not a militant Maoist, you need to stop LARPwashing.
