One who does a pointless task in pursuit of a fruitless goal. Concept originally created in an irc discussion of a person on grouphug.org that admitted to putting his dick in a fishbowl. It is used primarily to indicate one that is begging for invites to a private website, which likely both has invites closed at the time, and another irc channel devoted to invites which has been ignored.

To 'knock over the fishbowl' is a euphamism for failing a 'girlfriend test', where your girlfriend sets up a test to ensure that you are committed to the relationship.

Fishbowl Party 

This is the "new" fad amongst married couples who like to hook up with other people. It was very popular in the 70s and has come back around in the last few years. Every couple who comes to the Fishbowl Party puts their keys in a bowl. Whomever picks your keys out of the fishbowl is who you go home with. Girls may come alone, but it is "risky". It's actually a very good way to lead your relationship toward a break-up and/or divorce.
