The term is used for situations where one or more gay friend(s) are displaced from a social circle--the circle thus becomes "fagmented". The inverse of this is referred to as "defagmentation".

Fagment is a portmanteau nonce word combining the meanings of "fragment" and gay man. The term was coined in the Buffalo, NY art community around Fall of 2007 and its usage is rapidly growing.

". . . this drama caused Dennis and Rodney to fagment from the group; we weren't sure how to defagment our social circle."
