Dudeism is a modern religion
based outwardly on principles espoused implicitly by the character of "The
Dude" in the Coen Brothers' 1998 film "The Big Lebowski." Despite this recent catalyst, Dudeism has been around in
one form or another for cenuturies. It is heir to a long line of Dudeist apostles who have influenced humanity thoughout
history, most likely beginning with the Chinese sage Lao Tzu (legendary author of the Tao te Ching). The principles of Dudeism are peacefulness,
non-covetousness, immunity to peer pressure, right thinking (sometimes aided by a strict drug regiment, sometimes not), modesty in appearance, honoring thy friends, not worrying about s**t because life goes on, and most importantly, earnestly cultivating the facility to abide (remain true to
one's self) regardless of unforeseen unfelicitous circumstances. Ordained ministers in its official organization, The Church of the Latter-
Day Dude, are commonly referred to as "Dudeist Priests."
I used to believe in Buddhism until I found out there were so many
rules and everybody wears the same
clothes and they're all skinheads, man. Now I'm into Dudeism. What
day is this? A weekday?
