dollar girl

A woman that works at a latin bar and entertains patrons either by conversing at the bar and encouraging them to buy drinks or by dancing with a patron. If the patron buys a drink, the girl talking to him is given a coin or ticket by the bartender. Each coin or ticket is usually worth $1. If the patron wants to dance, it is usually $2 per song. The dances most commonly danced in these bars are bachata, merengue, & salsa.

A dollar girl of this type is NOT a prostitute. She is just clean entertainment for lonely patrons.
Before Yesenia bought it, she was a dollar girl in the same bar.

Let's go to Palacio Latino and dance with the dollar girls.

You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue? You fenians forget some things. (James Joyce, Ulysses. Penguin Books,1992. p. 38)
