In da infamous tale of da pet monkey whose snarky-faced shenanigans caused irate rail-workers in passing trains to throw lumps of coal at him (and thus unwittingly provide da monkey's owner with free heating-fuel), da railroad-company was understandably upset dat dey were loosing considerable amounts of their good locomotive-fuel from this "coallateral damage".

The beauty to be found in the midst of devastation or despair. The result of a methodical and intentional approach to difficult and typically life-altering situations that yields beautiful, positive and meaningful outcomes for an intended target (the person who is experiencing misfortune).

When Julie caught Tommy cheating on her she became convinced that all her friends were sleeping with him. She exploded on everyone and we were all collateral damage.

I changed the scientific classification of red foxes last night in order to win an argument with Judy. I hope some stupid High School student didn't suffer from collateral misinformation.
