Spa

A place where where you find a natural mineral spring
Famous British Spa Towns are Bath and Royal Leamington Spa. Large areas for bathing have been uncovered many times by archaeologists digging for Roman remains at Bath, Somerset. The Royal Pump Rooms and Baths were opened at Leamington ,Warwickshire in the early 1800s. Other examples of spa towns in Britain include Cheltenham, Harrogate, Llandrindod Wells, Malvern and Tunbridge Wells. There is an area called Spa, near Ballynahinch, Co. Down. There was a pump room and there also baths there in the late 1800s early 1900s but these have long since closed although the name still exists.

spa

With its roots originating in north inner city Dublin (circa 1980), the word "spa" remains prevalent amongst Irish youth today.

Spa is an abbreviation of the word spastic which is a medical condition related to muscle spasm or cerebral palsy, however it is important to note that the word spa is not to be taken as offensive to sufferers of these conditions.

It is more commonly used as a light hearted insult regarding idiotic behaviour.

An American equivalent might be asshole while the British counterpart might be plonker.
