Sobergerism

The conceptual union of Sokalism (the strategic use of academic hoaxes and to critique perceived intellectual fraud) and Mobergerism (the taxonomic dismissal of disagreeable positions as pseudoscience or bullshit). Sobergerism names the particular intellectual style that combines the Sokalist's performative exposure of nonsense with the Mobergerite's categorical dismissal of entire domains of inquiry. The Sobergerist doesn't just expose bad arguments—they position themselves as the ultimate arbiters of what counts as real knowledge, using the tools of academic critique to establish and enforce epistemological boundaries while remaining immune to similar critique themselves. It's a form of intellectual gatekeeping armed with the full apparatus of scientific authority, philosophical rigor, and performative debunking, creating a fortress of legitimate knowledge that can dismiss any challenger as either fraudulent (Sokalism) or categorically invalid (Mobergerism).
Example: "His response to the entire field of continental philosophy was to publish a parody and then declare any defense of it 'pseudophilosophy'—Sobergerism in its purest form, using mockery and taxonomic exclusion to avoid genuine engagement."

Mobergerism

A term derived from the works of Victor Moberger (particularly "Pseudoscience, Pseudoscience, and Bullshit" and "Truth about Objective Truths") describing a specific form of Objectivity Bias and Objective Hyperrealism where disagreement is managed through taxonomic dismissal rather than substantive engagement. The Mobergerite doesn't simply disagree with positions they find problematic—they categorize them as "pseudoscience," "pseudophilosophy," "bullshit," or related terms, thereby placing them outside the bounds of legitimate discourse without needing to address their actual content. It's a rhetorical strategy that uses the language of objectivity and scientific rigor to police the boundaries of acceptable thought while exempting itself from similar scrutiny. The Mobergerite occupies the position of the gatekeeper, armed with taxonomic categories that function as weapons rather than analytical tools.
Example: "He didn't engage with a single argument in the paper—he just declared it 'pseudophilosophy' and moved on. Classic Mobergerism: winning the debate by declaring the opponent wasn't really playing."

Shackteâu

A Shackteau is a humble, weather-beaten, structurally questionable shelter located in a spectacular or highly coveted place—Wales, Jackson Hole, Sun Valley, Crested Butte, coastal Maine, the Alps—where the building itself may be worth almost nothing, but the dirt, view, access, and mythology make it absurdly valuable.
