Nu Ring
A broad, extremely faint planetary ring surrounding Uranus, located approximately 67,300 kilometers from the planet's center.
The Nu ring, originally designated R/2003 U 2, was discovered through observations made by the Hubble Space Telescope and publicly announced in December 2005.
Unlike Uranus's dense and narrow inner rings, the Nu ring consists primarily of an extremely diffuse distribution of fine dust particles.
It extends approximately 3,800 kilometers in radial width and lies between the orbits of two small Uranian moons, Portia and Rosalind.
Observations have revealed that the Nu ring exhibits a reddish appearance, suggesting that its particle population differs from the unusually blue material found in the more distant Mu ring.
Its precise origin remains uncertain, although collisions involving small orbiting objects may contribute to the production and replenishment of its dust.
The Nu ring is part of Uranus's extended outer ring system and demonstrates that planetary rings can exist as broad, nearly transparent clouds of orbiting material.

"The Nu ring is an exceptionally faint band of dust orbiting Uranus between the moons Portia and Rosalind, far beyond the planet's brighter classical rings."
