Mythological Dark Fantasy

A distinct, high-concept subgenre of speculative worldbuilding and grim narrative fiction—deeply anchored within the Abzuverse framework—that completely strips traditional pantheonic mythologies of their idealized, utopian grandeur. Instead of depicting divine societies as benevolent, infallible guardians of order, this genre reframes pantheons (like the Anunnaki, Olympians, or Aesir) as highly unequal, politically corrupt aristocracies driven by paranoia, systemic exploitation, and ruthless court intrigue. Rulers like Anu, Zeus, or Odin maintain their cosmic splendor not through organic perfection, but through severe institutional hierarchies, classified state cover-ups, and the active suppression of forbidden knowledge to force a fragile, artificial stability onto an inherently volatile cosmos.
The structural tension of Mythological Dark Fantasy relies on exposing the severe cost of maintaining creation. Divine laws and royal etiquette function as mechanisms of social control, backed by a subordinate labor force (such as the Igigi) whose suffering is buried beneath gilded marble palaces. The universe functions as a complex, vulnerable machine trapped by invisible strings of fate, where divine actions carry immediate, catastrophic ripple effects across both material and spiritual realms. Rather than a straightforward battle between light and darkness, the genre explores deep moral ambiguity: the forces feared as monstrous monsters often hold the key to cosmic truth, while the entities worshipped as protectors engage in clandestine experimentation, unholy pacts, and familial betrayal.

"Mythological Dark Fantasy turns the classic hero-worshipping pantheons into an incredible corporate cold war. The golden palaces of Heaven are just a shiny veneer hiding a brutal class divide, hidden human sacrifice, and a desperate royal family willing to rewrite history itself to keep control of a fading universe."

A lighthearted reaction upon receiving disappointing news of some sort. Usually something that isn't a particularly a big deal, esp. when it primarily affects someone else - sort of a mild schadenfreude. Sometimes doubled or tripled, and possibly said in a sing-songy voice for added comedic effect to imitate a muted trumpet, which is how the meme originated.

Surf Dracula Syndrome

A phenomenon in film/television series, most notably streaming series, where the main premise is drawn out to such a point that it takes an entire season or more to get the parts of the series the audience is actually interested in seeing.

For example, if a series is titled "Surf Dracula," a majority of viewers would tune in expecting to see Dracula surfing by the first or second episode. However, the entire first season would instead be tedious padding and backstory before finally ending with Dracula surfing in the last five minutes of the season finale.
I watched "Smallville" on Netflix the other day. Dude, it was ten seasons of filler before he finally flew! Major Surf Dracula Syndrome!
