Pretentious substitute for "non-negotiable personal opinion."

Often used by academics, this is a convenient phrase for avoiding arguments because people can contradict your opinion but not your "truth."

The phrase is often used when seeking to justify a controversial personal stance or action because people are not allowed to argue with "your truth."
Gertrude: I'm leaving my husband. He is a really good, faithful guy and all, but I just don't love him anymore. It was a tough decision, but I have to stand in My Truth!"

Sharon: You are so brave! I'm so proud of you for being true to yourself ! Stay strong, sister!"

Not THE truth. Something someone tries desperately to convince themselves of in order to justify their actions and opinions.
Scientist, "The simple scientific truth is that, aside from genetic anomalies, the human race has two genders as defined by their chromosomes."
Activist, "That may be YOUR truth but its not MY TRUTH. I identify as an ATTACK HELICOPTER."

My Truther

Someone that says ‘my truth’ a lot and doesn’t live in an objective reality. They often excuse lies and live in lala land.
My girlfriend read a psych book now she’s a my truther cause she said: I’m going to put the past (shitty thing I did) behind me and live my truth (whatever that means weirdo).
