Indy's Southside

Refers to the Southside of Indianapolis; includes all of Franklin, Perry, and Decatur Townships , as well as the excluded towns of Southport Homecroft, and Beech Grove. Residents there are largely white and working class, however a large community of Burmese refugees of the Chin ethnicity lives on this part of town as well as fragmented populations of Hispanic and Black residents live there too. Area high schools include Franklin Central, Southport, Perry Meridian, Roncalli (a private, Catholic-run school), and to a lesser extent Decatur Central. The main center of higher education is the University of Indianapolis whose campus can be found at the Intersection of Hanna Avenue and Shelby street. Madison Avenue, US-31, and Meridian Street/ Indiana State Road 135 are the main streets that run north-south and tend to connect residents on this part of town to Downtown Indianapolis. Hanna Avenue, Thompson Road, Epler Avenue, Edgewood Avenue, Banta Road, Southport Road, Stop 11 Road, and County Line Road are the main streets that run west-east. Main points of interest include Garfield Park, Greenwood Park Mall , and as well as 1-2 Walmart stores. Not as bustling as other areas in or around Indianapolis (i.e. Carmel, Fishers, etc.) its still a good place to live in. Residents are called Southsiders.
(two friends spend a night in Downtown Indy)

Guy 1: hey man lets take Madison Avenue to Indy's Southside, I know a few pals of mine down there who can keep this party going all night.

Guy 2: What's even down there anyways, but the night's still young. Screw it let's go!!!!

Shackteâu

A Shackteau is a humble, weather-beaten, structurally questionable shelter located in a spectacular or highly coveted place—Wales, Jackson Hole, Sun Valley, Crested Butte, coastal Maine, the Alps—where the building itself may be worth almost nothing, but the dirt, view, access, and mythology make it absurdly valuable.
In use:
Shackteâu - We thought it was an abandoned shed until the realtor called it a rare alpine Shackteâu with unobstructed views and listed it for $2 million.

Fogey/fogy /fougi/ sl. (early 18C+, orig. Scot) old-fashioned, stuck-in-the mud.
Person with old fashioned ideas which he is unwilling to change: Come to the disco and stop being such an old fogey!
You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue? You fenians forget some things. (James Joyce, Ulysses. Penguin Books,1992. p. 38)
