Detriotification

N. (DEE-troy-tif-a-KAY-shun):A degenerative process effecting many great American cities. Derived from the name of the first example of this degeneration, Detroit, which went from apopulation of over 1.6 million people in the 1960's to a population of 639,000 just 60 years later. Detroitification is a general process that can happen in any city where people get too comfortable and become a Democrat-only run city which leads to corruption and then an exodus of the productive class that ,in turn, leads to an even higher ratio of unproductive to productive citizens causing burden to pay for public services to fall on even less productive people until there is nothing left and reality sets in.

Modern examples of Detroitification are: San Fransisco, Seattle.
The Detriotification of San Francisco has been pretty entertaining.

Detroitification

n.

Detroitification refers to the destruction of a city, state or nation through draining money from hardworking individuals to pay for the cushy compensation and retirement of unproductive public "servants." When paired with corruption, Detroitification can skeletonize a city in just a few years.

The term "Detroitification" was coined by Michigan policy analyst Jack McHugh in 2007.
Gentrification is less of a problem in the U.S. than Detroitification.

Detroitification

The process by which the day-to-day living conditions in a city deteriorate and that city gradually becomes a run-down, high-crime, undesirable slum.
Every city should take quick action to nip in the bud any apparent Detroitification.

Detroitification

Imagine a city that in 1950 was home to 2 million residents. Over 70 years many people have moved away and now the population is only around 600,000 people. The remaining population still lives in the city, but there is less density, greater distance between population centers, etc. This makes the delivery of utilities and the deployment of crucial services like road paving and snow removal more difficult. The cost of maintaining an infrastructure meant for 2 million people on the tax dollars of 600,000 people becomes almost impossible to do.
China has a TFR of 1.3 and 155 cities with more than 1 million people. Detroitification is going to be a major problem for them.
