The AIM-9 Sidewinder is a Short-Range Air-to-Air missile adopted by the US Navy in 1956 and adopted by the US Airforce in 1964. The AIM-9 is considered one of the most successful western short-range air-to-air missiles, and is still used by numerous Nations around the world; and with the Block III still in development, it is likely that the AIM-9 will remain in service for many years to come.
