20ninescene (2019) is the resurgence in popularity of the mid to late 2000s scene/emo aesthetic. It started on major social media platforms like Instagram and tiktok. Users going by "scene queen" and using phrases such as "XD rawr" lawlz" etc. And while these phrases may be used in a sometimes funny or ironic way, the staple fashion of the scene has made a come back.
Spiked, teased, colored, layered hair styles that were huge in the 2000s have resurfaced as well as skinny jeans, band tees, hightops, cartoon graphic tees and chunky jewelry.
But the scene/emo aesthetic isn't the only thing that has resurfaced. Mall goth and mall punk aesthetics have also made a comeback. Tripp pants, liberty spiked hair/mohawks, spike jewelry, and pop punk bands.
Sense the y2k era ended almost 10 years ago, there is definitely nostalgia to be had with the styles and aesthetics of the era. Which inturn probably ignited the resurgence of these styles.
