Term to describe someone who you are more than friends with, but not in a relationship with. Short for "the potential boyfriend/girlfriend," it's meant to finally define this limbo period when you're kinda seeing, kinda dating someone.

Son: Hey mom, what's Kelcey doing tonight?

Mom: She's hanging out with Marco again. It looks like he's The Potential.

Son: Oh geez, god help that boy!

Relates to the jealousy created by a girl having a better handbag than her friends.

1) Someones ability to become something. There may of course be good potential or bad potential.

Such potentail usually occours in male adolescents that participate in sports.

In rare cases some people may have to much potentail.

2) Joking about how someone may have potential to suceed or do something good, but will probably fail.

-He had so much potential. We thought he'd be in NBA, but furthest he got was halftime show.
