a son of Bob Marley who is a reggae superstar in his own right. He performed with his brother Stephen and 2 sisters in the Melody Makers in the 20th century and now is on his own, as is all the other Melody Makers. He is true to his legendary father's legacy.
I saw Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers as an opening act for the B-52s in 1990, as an opener for Midnight Oil in 1993 and as a headlining act in 1998. It was great Caribbean rock'n'roll and good vibes each time. See Ziggy Marley for top-quality reggae.

Bob marley was born "Robert Nesta Marley" on February 6, 1945 Nine Mile, Saint Ann, Jamaica. His first major band was with " The wailers " in 1964 - 1974 and then later " bob marley and the wailers " in 1974 - 1981.
In july of 1977 Bob Marley was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in a wound on his right big toe and refused amputation because of rastafari beleifs that the body must be a whole
"Rasta no abide amputation. I don't allow a man to be dismantled"
After this bob marley went on to play a number of shows with his final live appearance being at Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 23, 1980. Over these last few years of his life cancer had spread to his lungs, liver, brain and stomach. When flying home to jamaica in the final days of his life Bob Marley becamse drastically ill and passed away at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami, Florida on the morning of May 11, 1981 at the age of 36.
