commercial comfort

Ancient CB* term from the late 1970's meaning "prostitute in area." Experienced prostitutes would travel three-or-four to a car equiped with a CB radio and/or police scanner and cruise truck stops at night. During the height of the CB craze in America, some truckers would stay-up all night on their CB's talking and jabbering in their strange CB codes. The prostitutes would cut-in on the conversations announcing "commercial comfort" had arrived. This would then be followed by hand signals or flashed headlights indicating who their next "customer" was.

The term "commercial comfort" was last heard on the dying CB airwaves as late as 1998, just prior to affordable cell' 'phone plans and the Internet took over.

commotion sickness

The sense of nausea, headache, panic and/or exhaustion one feels when there are too many people doing things around you while you are trying to relax.

This sensation can also be felt by the person busy in motion doing too many things at once.

Joe: Lisa, will you sit down and relax. Do you have to wrap the parcels, do laundry and cook dinner right now?

Lisa: I have to get ready for my family Christmas party.

Joe: You are giving me a case of commotion sickness

common law fiance

When a couple has been "dating" for such a long time that they are on an inevitable path to marriage, the participants in the relationship become common law fiancés, even if no formal commitment to get married has been made. Often, the involved parties deny this de facto status, frequently out of fear of commitment or embarrassment over not taking their relationship to the next level. However, they usually conduct themselves like a typical engaged couple (e.g., sharing holidays with both sets of families, etc.)

Aaron: hey, is your fiance coming to dinner with us?
Mike: no, my girlfriend cannot make dinner tonight
Aaron: she is so your common law fiance...you guys have been together for more than 6 years!
