proffing

When one takes on the personality of a professor and proceeds to forcefully lecture someone on an issue of which they believe they are the resident expert in, but in which they possess no knowledge or experience.

Generally becomes more pronounced with intoxication or during male bonding sessions. Often the phrase "I'll give you the hot tip..." is a precursor to an episode of proffing.

P1. Hey, did you hear Adam last night at the party lecturing Justin on the proof of global warming?

P2. Yeah, he sure gave him a proffing!

puff

Mascot of the free UNIX-like open source operating system OpenBSD.

Each release, which occur twice a year (about six months, give or take one), Puff is given a themed role based on either current events of a joke the developers liked.

Such themes include RamBlow (based on Rambo and the contraversy surrounding cryptography being legal munitions in the United States of America), 077 (Pond, James Pond), Puffy the Kittieslayer (Buffy, the Vampire Slayer), rapper Puffy and most recently Puff the Barbarian.

This Blowfish is used in a variety of tee shirts and posters which can be seen on the OpenBSD site (openbsd.org).

A King ruled the web with fear

Fabrication of fact used to support an argument, i.e. Photochops that attempt to mislead the reader. Sometimes the falsification is intentionally obvious, done for humorous effect.

Etymology: Derived from misspelling of word "proof" commonly found on Internet message boards, in the context of political or other arguments.
