WISHFUL THINKER

A wishful thinker is one who naively believes, what he/she wants an outcome to be, rather than dealing with the alternate reality of what the outcome probably in reality will be. Wishful thinkers are very sweet, but get into trouble with this way of assessing situations. Often very unrealistic, in a silly way. Pollyanna, optimistic. What they want to be true blinds them to reality.

I am sure the police will just give me a warning for my out of date inspection sticker.

I did not read any of the material for the test, and did not prepare at all, but I am sure I will get a good grade.

Thanks Morrissey

Phrase to be used when someone delivers bad news in an otherwise pleasant conversation or time. It comes from the idea that Morrissey (solo artist and frontman of The Smiths) wrote depressing lyrics which were then often juxtaposed with quite upbeat or happy music. For example the song "Girlfriend in a Coma" or the chorus lyrics to "There is a Light that never comes out"

Dave - "My wife is pregnant, I'm going to be a father!"

Sally - "That's awesome, congratulations Dave!"

Steve - "The baby might be born with a disability"

Dave - "Oh thanks Morrissey!"

Thanksgiving orphan

Someone who has nowhere to go on Thanksgiving because they are far away from family and friends. A Thanksgiving orphan is someone who is taken in by friends or another family to share in the Thanksgiving feast.

Thank You Ted, That Was The Joke

A phrase used when a person explains the punchline to a joke. A quip first used in Family Guy. While cards, Peter says that aces "go both way", prompting Ted Turner to say "Just like a bisexual!" Michael Eisner responds with "Thank you Ted, that was the joke."

Bob: How do you confuse a blond?
James: I don't know, how?
Bob: Put her in a circular room and tell her to find the corner.
James: Hahah! There isn't a corner in a circular room!
Bob:Thank you Ted, that was the joke.
