These usually start with statements affirming their own moral virtues on issues like racism, sexism etc. Values that when so forefront in your mind that they are brought up without being asked during substantive policy debate, imply that you actually struggle with these issues yourself. They will mistake those who try to inform them of how it's coming across (for their own good) to stop the public embarrassment as attacks from political opposition inherently political in nature. These events are a phenomena in western societies recently as policies in academia have drifted from merit based to identity based thinking.
