The funnier, more clever, and original alternative to Family Guy. About a conservative CIA agent dealing with Suburban life as well as his family, plus he has a alien for a best friend. The jokes are better, the satire is good, the plots make sense, and the characters are more developed. Basically proof that you don't need pointless long gags/flashbacks, a gay baby, and a obnoxious fat guy to make people laugh. Plus the show gets way less preachy than family guy as the seasons go on.
If you want to compare anything to the Simpsons, use this show, because it has something family guy will never have: originality.

FG fan: Dude have you seen Family Guy last night?
AD fan: No, I stopped watching that stupid show since I started watching American Dad! and realized how much Family Guy actually is not funny..
FG fan: But it's family guy!
AD fan: And you're a retard!

What makes a dad joke isn't just the fact that it is often lame, but rather a dad joke is told souly for the entertainment of the teller (dad) and not the audience.
My dad didn't notice me in the room and just tested a stud finder on himself, beeped, said it worked, and laughed with nobody else around him. Typical dad joke

A stepdad, particularly a dickish stepdad.
Etymology: In the 1993 film The Sandlot, Scotty Smalls can't decide if he's supposed to call Denis Leary (who masterfully plays the dickish stepdad) Bill or Dad.

(verb) To continually (intentionally or not) use a slang word over and over again in front of your kids or your friends, until it becomes so uncool that they stop saying it to each other altogether.
My son's friends used to constantly refer to their girlfriends as "Bae" , but not anymore since I spent 2 weeks white-dadding it.

A father who always smells and walks around in his underpants. He never suggests an activity for the family to do. In other words, an awful father
Kid: Hey, Dad, wanna play some baseball?
Donkey Dad: No, I'd rather walk around aimlessly in my underwear.
Kid: DONKEY DAD!

Kid: DONKEY DAD!
