The words comes from two Greek Words Pedo (child) and Philia (love). These are not the exact Greek words but derivations. So the word refers to a lover of children and has no sexual connotations except those put on it by society. So a nursery nurse, teacher and parent may be a pedophile in this sense. But the subject of sex is a loaded one. There are platonic relationships that can be very rewarding.
