An extremely good book series by
British author J.K. Rowling. The main charactor is Harry James Potter, the wizard who defeated the darkest wizard of all
time, Lord Voldemort, at the age of one. Harry grew up with his aunt,
uncle, and cousin until he was ten because his
parents sacrificed their lives for him. As Harry begins his education at the Hogwarts
School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, he learns of his parentage, gains new friends, and faces Voldemort a few more times. Oh, and don't forget the magic!
There are
seven books in the whole series, each depicting a school year of Harry's life, plus an epilogue:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's
Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the
Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
The first five books have also been turned into movies, and the sixth is currenting being filmed. The films star Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ronald Weasley, Harry's best friend, and
Emma Watson, as Hermione Granger, Harry's other best friend. The seventh book will also be made into a movie shortly after the sixth.
As well as movies, the books have also spawned a number of video games
based (unfortunatley) on the movies.
The best part of the gargantuan Harry Potter
fandom by far has to be the
music. There are currently hundreds of bands popping up all over the world in the genre Wizard Rock, also known as WROCK. The bands range from a few recordings edited in Garageband, to the professional sounds of bands like Harry and the Potters (who started the genre), the Ministry of Magic, the Remus Lupins, and the Moaning Myrtles. There are so many out there! Most have a Myspace page with songs available to download, but some (like the ones mentioned above) have even made their way to iTunes. Keep on WROCKing and Rowling, you guys!
