A phenomenon experienced in Russia or people with Russian heritage (Usually also live a Slavic life style) when they forget everything but The Motherland. They can forget things including but not limited to basic involuntary functions including breathing, heart movements, eye movement and intestinal movement.

Virus Nostalgia

An overwhelming feeling of nostalgia caused unexpectedly that can cause you to drop whatever you were working on or thinking about, and just drown you in memories. It takes hold of your actions and thoughts, and bends you to the will of your past experiences, in a similar manner of how a virus (the disease variant) will completely overwhelm a host.

I found a cool Spotify playlist the other day full of songs from 2012 and stuff, and was listening to it while doing the dishes, when We are young came on, and I had a case of sudden virus nostalgia from my sophomore year in high school.

Destructive nostalgia

Excessive amount of nostalgia and grieving for the past to the point where present and the future becomes irrelevant for the person. This can be mostly caused by lack of happiness in the present and depression. The name destructive comes from the fact it causes destruction of the future due to being demotivated to do anything for it.

Patient: "The present and future has nothing for me, the brightness of my lost past is corroding my mind."
Therapist: "That sounds like destructive nostalgia."

Person 1: Yeah, what of it?
