Literally can be defined in a single sentence: "I love hope and want to cause despair so hope wins" and basically is just a fucking asshole the entire series and everyone loves him because he is edgy or some stupid shit like that, and they also love shipping him with hajime because the community needs something to be gay or they'll all die like nagito when the spear went through his chest.

Nagito Komaeda is a shitty character from Danganronpa. His parents and dog died to escape from him. His hair is so nitty and crunchy that you can snap it off. Nobody likes him. In the end he became a pin cushion (well deserved).
