(American Race Relations):
The idea of countering the lingering effects of slavery and Jim Crow laws on black Americans (redlining, school-to-prison pipeline, housing and employment discrimination, etc.) with money, Welfare, and/or Affirmative Action.

Popularized by Ta-Nehisi Coates in “We Were Eight Years in Power” (2017)

Bernie Sanders, despite supporting democratic socialism, did not support the idea of reparations in his 2016 campaign.

Reparations

What America owes Black American families for using them to build this country as unpaid labor while being beaten, raped and killed. Similar to the reparations given to Jews and the Japanese after WWII.

It’s pretty jacked up that as soon as freed slaves worked all that land so they could grow crops, President Johnson took their reparations back.

Slavery reparations movement

A movement that seeks to pay the decendents of ameraica slaves money to help make up for the fact that there ancesters were slaves. It is thought that the us is at falt for it because it condoned it. They money wouldn't all be payed out in cash. There would be special college grants for african american students,grants for african americans who want to start businesses ect.
