Rhetocrit

(noun): A portmanteau of rhetoric and hypocrite

A person or position characterised by outwardly opposing a concept or behaviour while actively embodying or benefiting from it. The term is particularly applied when the opposition is performative and comes predominantly from those who perpetuate the criticized behavior.

Examples of Rhetocrit in Action:

Claiming to oppose "identity politics" while leveraging identity-based rhetoric.

Decrying censorship or defending "free speech" while silencing critics through lawsuits or other measures.

Legislating against "gender ideology" while enforcing a strict, ideological view of gender roles.

This term encapsulates the contradiction between stated values and actual actions, highlighting hypocrisy in a pointed, rhetorical way.
"People who argue that Donald Trump won because the country was tired of identity politics are rhetocrits, given that Trump’s entire campaign was rooted in identity politics—focusing on cultural grievances, racial divisions, and appeals to a specific demographic."
