Mort (noun)
An older
individual who presents themselves as younger, or more socially palatable, within younger
people’s spaces or online communities. Morts often express an interest in
anime, share unusual or esoteric beliefs unprompted, and display sexual kinks that are extreme in nature. They are commonly found in communities centered around individuals—typically women—who are ten or more years younger than themselves.
Morts usually avoid disclosing their age; when they do, it is often significantly higher than expected for the community in which they participate. After interacting with a Mort, it often becomes clear why they do not spend
time with peers their own age. While most Morts are men, women can also fit this description. If a Mort has
children, this fact is often unmentioned until brought up, at which
point it is frequently revealed that they have a strained or unusual
relationship with them.
Morts frequently occupy positions of closeness to the community leader, particularly younger content creators. In some cases, a Mort may be the leader or central figure of a community themselves, cultivating an audience composed largely of much younger
people. These Morts often attempt to pursue relationships—romantic or otherwise—with younger individuals in the streaming community, most often women, and such situations commonly end in scandal.
The term originates from the character Mort in the Madagascar franchise, whose behaviors are seen as analogous.
