stop n' merge

A technique employed by ignorant and/or terrified drivers when merging onto a freeway: instead of accelerating to merge into faster traffic, these drivers actually stop and attempt to cut into oncoming traffic from a complete standstill. The "stop n' merge" is a dangerous maneuver.

I almost got in an accident today because some clown decided to pull a stop n' merge in rush hour traffic.

The method used by drivers from Massachusetts to merge in a construction zone - driving as far in the lane that is ending and then forcing traffic to stop in the continuing lane as they force you to hit them or let them in.

Chicago Merge

An especially shitty way of driving. Basically, you get as close to someone's bumper as possible before you merge in front of them effectively cutting them off. Commonly seen from FIBs in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin

tampa merge

This term describes the driving tactic whereby a person momentarily, and intentionally, moves their vehicle into another person's lane. This situation creates the possibility of being side-swiped, thus generally causing the threatened driver to slow down, thereby creating a gap in the traffic suitable for occupation by the offending driver.

He tried to pull a Tampa merge on me, but I refused to yield.
