Countryperson

A unisex name for your fellow American, Ghanian, Grecian, Russian, Japanese, Columbian, Jamaican or any other country.
Guy- If that was my sister...
Other guy- Well that's not your sister, that's not your family member, and that's not you. It's not about you, it's about the girl, so what you would do if it was you, your sister, or your family is different than what she would do. In the word's loosest sense, that is your sister and that is definitely your countryperson (she's not a countryman).
All those years before 1969, there was no ageism, then suddenly there is ageism. It makes you wonder if the same is true about sexism or racism, and how much you hear about any of it is actually true.
Ageism seems like one of those things somebody came up with that a bunch of other people joined in and said ageism, oh yeah, I know what this guy is talking about, I've experienced that too.

Thinking you know something and trusting in it.
A lot of people assume something based on a first impression. Some keep on doing it their whole life.

Giving in

Pressure is never so high that you have to give in to it.
Tough love was their way of saying it was fighting and not giving in that kept people going.
Tokyo isn't going to make or break Simone Biles. She was already the gymnast most considered the greatest before Tokyo, and she will be around a long time after Tokyo, she doesn't need more medals to prove or back up anything at this point. It's really nobody's decision to make but hers whether to do an event. Tough love won't change that, but it can wake somebody up. Fighting is what got them the gold medals.
Tokyo is one event of many over a lifetime.

Giraffe in the room

Something people will talk about longer than a giraffe's neck.
People could keep pretending not to notice the giraffe in the room, but at some point Dewey Cox was going to bring it up and it would be unavoidable.
Something most people try to avoid being due to a lack of trust for Mr. Clean.
Mr. Clean had no friends once he became Mr. Clean.
