An argument strategy in which a contender lets an opponent fatigue themself by feigning sadness, guilt, and repentance, allowing the contender to later execute offensive maneuvers and win the fight.

The way my Portuguese in-laws say goodbye after Sunday dinner typically takes 30 minutes from the first 'we need to go' to the rest of the family encircling their car in the driveway to wave at them while they disappear over the horizon - "the portuguese goodbye" par excellence.
