to take so long means to spend a lot of time to do something.

in a shoe-shop

customer: do you have these shoes in my size?
shopkeeper: let me see, wait a minute.
(15 minutes later and the shopkeeper hasn't come back)
(the customer say to the manager of the shoe-shop)
customer: io, the shopkeeper take so long to bring a pair of shoes.
