v. To indulge in an extravagant expense that is unnecessary. To behave or act in an improper way; to be stupid or to do things without thinking ahead of time.

splurgency 

A sudden, manic compulsion to go out shopping for unnecessary consumer merchandise.

It is Labor Day in the US and retail sales events have triggered my wife to declare a national splurgency.

Once the splurgency concludes, we will certainly be making a second trip to return her purchases.
