reduncronym

Definition:
When someone uses an acronym in conversation and then immediately explains what the acronym stands for—thus defeating the purpose of using the acronym in the first place. A reduncronym is where linguistic efficiency collapses under the weight of its own explanation.
Example:
“TL;DR—Too long; didn’t read.”
Wait… if you had to explain it, why use the acronym? That’s a classic reduncronym.
