reduncronym

Definition:
When someone uses an acronym in conversation and then immediately explains what the acronym stands for—thus defeating the purpose of using the acronym in the first place. A reduncronym is where linguistic efficiency collapses under the weight of its own explanation.
Example:
“TL;DR—Too long; didn’t read.”
Wait… if you had to explain it, why use the acronym? That’s a classic reduncronym.

redundonym

The improper use of an acronym, whereby the last term is repeated in its full form for some unknown reason.
Person 1: Is there an ATM machine around? I have a new PIN number I want to try out.

Person 2: Nice redundonym, jerk. I think there is an Automatic Teller Machine Machine around the corner. Hope the new Personal Identification Number Number works.
