preposturing

The act of of self-aggrandizing, or posturing, by claiming credit for things they had nothing to do with in a way that is clearly ridiculous, or preposterous, to an objective audience. See also, Donald Trump.
In a typical, but mundane, case of preposturing, I heard a senior IT executive in Higher Education claim to their colleagues that Microsoft PowerBI was a homegrown tool.
