This is a nickname for kidssic who spendt a lot of their time at a pool. It's not always worth the embarassment of being a poolrat to be one, but once you are one you'll understand.

Person(s) who sneaks into public or private swimming pools which are off-limits to non-paying customers (such as hotel pools), or because open hours are over. The term can be used positively or negatively, but the hobby of tactical pool infiltration is without a doubt just as fun as, if not moreso than, the actual swimming that follows. Good poolrats are grateful, respectful and polite renegade swimmers.

James: Betty, make sure guests check in with you and sign the swim log at your desk -- that guy from 303 says there were a couple of poolrats here last night. People can't swim here for free -- it's just not fair to our customers!
Betty: I'm less worried by a couple of poolrats than that guy, since he was totally harassing two girls in the hot-tub. Plus those kids helped me clean up the deck 10 minutes before closing.

pool rat 

Children who show up everyday to the pool and annoy the sh*t out of the lifeguards. These kids are dropped off everyday by their parents, even if the weather is 55 degrees, raging wind, and thundering! Even with this kind of weather, the kids still stay and swim ALL DAY, and complain to the lifeguards how cold it is....

This keeps the lifeguards from being able to close....

The parents of pool rats think that lifeguards are only their to serve their needs as free babysitters. If the pool is closed due to horrible weather, these parents will often call the lifeguards and ask for a "good reason" for not being open, even when it's hailing golfball-sized ice balls. These parents are the lifeguards'/pool managers' worst nightmare....

Stephanie is at the pool everyday, even when there are tornado warnings in the area. What a freakin' pool rat1
