Observed on the Sunday before
Thanksgiving and originated in 2007 in Bucktown, Chicago, Mangiving is a day for men of all walks of life to gather, feast, watch football, drink beer, and present Man awards for the past year. Mangiving starts at noon with the
National Anthem followed by a ceremony including awards such as Man of the Year, Man move of the year, MLV of the year, and Half man of the year. Participants in Mangiving vote on the winners (or losers) for these awards during the weeks leading up to Mangiving. Each participant is also required to have a man name (i.e. Manbear, Manwood, Manshanks) as well as bring a dish to the feast. First time attendees of Mangiving are not allowed to
participate in the vote. Only veterans may vote.
I am really
looking forward to Mangiving, but I am nervous because I was
nominated for MLV of the year for being caught
watching The Notebook earlier this year. I hope someone did worse or I will win the award.
Mangiving is going to be so bad ass this year. I am bringing a broccoli cheese casserole to the feast along with a case of Bud Heavy.
