This word is actually “leeway”, often within the culture used incorrectly. Leeway means giving extra time or opportunity; opening doors of access in various arenas; giving access or a green light.
Cassandra gave her friend John sufficient leadway (leeway) to get his act together towards their relationship, before she moved out.
